Dr. Darren Kelly became the Director of the McNair Scholars Program in 2013, leading one of the premier McNair Scholars Programs in the country. His previous experience includes 3 years working in corporate finance and 6 years as a Graduate Research Assistant and Research and Academic Coordinator with the Longhorn Center for Academic Excellence (LCAE).
A native of Orange County, CA, Dr. Kelly holds a B.S. in Commerce with concentrations in finance and marketing from the University of Virginia, and a M.A. and Ph.D. in sport management from The University of Texas at Austin. Additionally, Dr. Kelly serves as the Chief of Staff for Academic Diversity Initiatives (ADI) and Assistant Director of the African American Male Research Initiative (AAMRI) within the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement. He is also active with several local and national organizations. He is married with one son.
