The Assistive Technology (ATEC) Lab is located in the Student Services Building (SSB), room 4.206 and offers adaptive equipment and software for students registered with SSD. The ATEC lab also serves as the production facility for students who receive alternative text such as E-text, digital audio, and enlarged print.
The ATEC Lab contains PC and Mac workstations equipped with standard university-wide applications as well as the following programs:
- Kurzweil 3000
- Dragon Naturally Speaking
SSD is also able to offer subscriptions to Kurzweil which allows students to install the software on their personal computers. Kurzweil can convert accessible text files to MP3 format and can also read text aloud.
- Color CCTV
- High speed duplexing scanners
- Flatbed scanners
In addition to assistive technology and adaptive equipment, the ATEC Lab offers on site staff to assist students with scanning, testing and assistive technology use as needed.
