CART and Typewell
Students who do not use sign language and cannot access information presented orally may need information presented in a visual format. There are several options for making auditory information available in an accessible format through speech to text technology.
Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART)
CART involves a court reporter transcribing a lecture into written language that is then displayed on a laptop computer screen for the student. The court reporter may be in the classroom or at a remote location. CART services are arranged by the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Coordinator in SSD.
For more information about on site and remote CART, see Texas Closed Captioning.
Typewell provides a transcript based on meaning rather than the word for word translation provided by CART. For more information about Typewell visit the following link: TypeWell- Speech to Text Translation
Below are two videos that provide more information on providing and using speech to text transcribing.
