Online Learning

Black woman studying at a computerStudents with disabilities are still eligible to use accommodations in online courses, although the type of accommodations needed may be different than what is needed in a traditional classroom setting.  Online classes offer flexibility that often works well for students with disabilities, however there are some unique considerations when thinking about taking a course online.

Online Learning for Students with Disabilities is a complete guide to distance learning for students with disabilities. Learn how to work with disability services, employ assistive technology, evaluate online programs, and succeed in the virtual classroom.

At UT, many online courses are offered through University Extension. SSD works with University Extension to review and approve accommodation requests. See below for information on how to receive accommodations for University Extension courses.

UT student registered with SSD:

  • Submit completed RequestforUEXAccommodations.pdf to your Disabilities Services Coordinator to request verification of your accommodations to University Extension. If you don’t remember the name of your Coordinator please contact the SSD front desk at 512-471-6259.

UT student not registered with SSD:

  • UT students must register with SSD in order to use accommodations for University Extension courses. See How to Register for more information.

Non-UT student taking University Extension courses:

SSD does not typically provide testing accommodations for students enrolled in University Extension courses. Students needing to use accommodations on their exams will need to coordinate these arrangements with their approved testing site and/or proctor.
