Upcoming Alumni Events:

Creative Writing Workshop is Back!

We’re excited to have Hana Silverstein back on board to facilitate our spring creative writing workshop! Hana served Free Minds for two years as an AmericorpsVISTA, and during that time, one of her many projects was to develop a model for Free Minds to offer writing workshops in the community. During this upcoming free, 8-week long workshop, you will have the chance to explore your creative potential, share your stories, and improve your comfort and skill as a writer. The group will meet once a week to do guided writing exercises in a supportive group environment. Child care is available.
When: Tuesdays, April 9 – May 28, 6:15 – 8:15 pm
Where: Sierra Vista Learning Center, 4320 South Congress Avenue
Who: You! No experience is necessary and all are welcome to sign up. Space is limited and workshop slots will be reserved on a first come, first served basis. Please ensure that you’re able to attend the majority of workshop sessions before registering in order to respect the time of Free Minds volunteers and fellow workshop participants.
To register or ask questions, call or email the Free Minds office.

Master Class April 20th, 12 – 2 pm
Focus on Photography: The Symbolic Portraiture of Arnold Newman
Harry Ransom Center, corner of 21st and Guadalupe

Join us for this special tour and discussion of the HRC’s new exhibit entitled Arnold Newman: Masterclass. Post-World War II, Photographer Arnold Newman was formulating a new approach to portraiture, capturing iconic subjects like Pablo Picasso, Marilyn Monroe, and Mickey Mantle in their own environments. Through this trademark style, Newman created works of lasting cultural resonance. Call or email the Free Minds office to RSVP!
