With your help, we can provide many more adults and families with life-enriching access to college education in the humanities.

Since 2006, Free Minds has offered rigorous humanities education to low income adults, creating a space for non-traditional students to explore their intellectual potential and develop the skills they need in order to thrive in college. Our organization has a proven track record of success, with 77% of students taking additional college courses after completing Free Minds. (For more information about the success of Free Minds, check out our Impact page.)

In the midst of these triumphs, Free Minds is still striving to ensure that we remain a stable part of the Austin’s educational landscape into the future. Though Free Minds is a UT program, it is self-sustaining through grants and individual donations. The truth is that there are many ways that we would love to extend Free Minds programs if only we had the resources to do it, such as by offering college scholarships and additional credit-bearing opportunities to Free Minds graduates, building up our alumni mentorship program, and offering additional community writing workshops around town.

Please consider giving:

$10 to allow a student to see a live Shakespeare performance
$25 to buy two course books for a student
$120 to provide a hot healthy meal for the class and their children for one evening
$800 to cover a child in the Camp Fire USA program for nine months
$1,225 to sponsor a Free Minds student for one semester of the program

We are currently accepting new and used, functioning laptop computers for Free Minds students and alumni. If you have a laptop that you no longer use and would like to donate it, please call or email our office.
