Knowledge & Noms: Be a Good Girl / Act Like a Real Man

Join us for our ongoing lunch time workshop series Knowledge and Noms. Knowledge and Noms provides a space for students, faculty and community members to nom while enjoying workshops ranging in topic.

Be a Good Girl/Act Like a Real Man will explore the construction of a gender binary and its limitation for every gender! Knowledge provided by Shane Whalley (our Education Coordinator) Noms (light snacks) provided by the GSC!

Gender Exploration Discussion Group

Are you someone who thinks about your gender identity and expression often, and you don’t have enough places to talk about it? Are you interested in knowing more about what gender transition looks like and would like to talk about it face-to-face and not look for information only on the internet? The Gender and Sexuality is running an eight week, closed Gender Exploration Discussion Group on Tuesday nights from 7 to 8:30pm starting February 5th. If you are interested in finding out more or joining the group, please contact Shane Whalley at swhalley@austin.utexas.edu.

2nd Annual Gloria Anzaldúa Luncheon

In it’s second year, the Gloria Anzaldúa luncheon is an event that serves to honor the work and legacy of Gloria Anzaldúa and other queer feminists of color. A two-day event, the first day will be composed of an evening intersectionality and community organizing workshop. The second day is a catered luncheon featuring keynote speaker Kim Katrin Crosby.

Gloria Anzaldúa; cultural theorist, writer, and teacher was a guiding force in the Chicana/o movement in the 1960s and 1970s and in lesbian/queer theory. The papers of Anzaldúa, who grew up in the Rio Grande Valley, are archived in the Benson Latin American Collection.

Kim Katrin Crosby is an award-winning multidisciplinary artist, activist, consultant, facilitator, and educator. She supports the creation of community arts and allocation of resources. She performs workshops and educates about intersectionality across the United States and Canada.

Open Training: Trans Training

Ever wonder what the T in LGBT stands for? The Gender and Sexuality Center will be hosting an OPEN Transgender 101 training.

We all have gender identities and expression! Come find out more about yours and others. This training goes over Transgender identities and how students, faculty, and staff can better serve Trans students. We look forward to seeing you there.
