GSC Speaker Series: Raja Bhattar, Hindu, Queer, and an Immigrant Experience Can a person be South Asian and Queer?! What do the Hindu scriptures say about homosexuality? What is it like to be a Queer Person of Color (QPOC) in a community dominated by images of white, gay men?! Come listen to one man’s journey to understanding his queer, spiritual and ethnic identities. Raja will share stories of being raised in a traditional Hindu religious community, growing up in the U.S. and the struggle to balance both worlds. Funny, yet poignant, Raja’s story will give you a unique perspective, often invisible in mainstream South Asian and Queer cultures. This event is free and open to the public. Parking available in university garages. For more information call (512) 232-1831 or email gsc@uts.cc.utexas.edu. If you need assistance or accommodations call: Visit the GSC online at www.utgsc.com. |
