“Why Intellectual Entrepreneurship Increases Diversity” by Dr. Rick Cherwitz was published in this month’s issue of Hispanic Outlook for Higher Education. Dr. Cherwitz writes that “IE implores students to create for themselves a world of vast intellectual and practical possibilities, acquiring the resources needed to bring their visions to fruition. Put simply IE changes the metaphor and model of education from one of ‘apprenticeship-certification-entitlement’ to one of ‘discovery-ownership-accountability.’” He says that students noted IE allowed opportunities to explore how use their intellectual capital to give back to the community–a motivating factor for many underrepresented students.
