Diverse Issues in Higher Ed Ranks the Top STEM Degree Producers

Each year Diverse Issues in Higher Education runs the numbers on degrees awarded to minority students at universities and colleges across the nation. In the August 2 issue, the magazine ranked the Top STEM degree producers, using data from the 2010-11 academic year. Here’s where The University of Texas at Austin ranked:

  • Third in the total number of bachelor’s degrees awarded in Mathematics and Statistics. Awarded: 90; up 38% from the previous year.
  • Fourth in the total number of bachelor’s degrees awarded in Engineering. Awarded: 393; up 14% from the previous year.
  • Eighth in the total number of doctorate degrees awarded in Engineering. Awarded 23 doctorates; up 53% from the previous year.
  • Sixth in the total number of bachelor’s degrees awarded in Biological and Biomedical Sciences. Awarded: 445 degrees; up 17% from the previous year.
  • Fifth in the number of doctoral degrees in Computer and Information Sciences. Awarded: 5 doctorates; up 500% from the previous year
