Each year Diverse Issues in Higher Education runs the numbers on degrees awarded to minority students at universities and colleges across the nation. In the August 2 issue, the magazine ranked the Top STEM degree producers, using data from the 2010-11 academic year. Here’s where The University of Texas at Austin ranked:
- Third in the total number of bachelor’s degrees awarded in Mathematics and Statistics. Awarded: 90; up 38% from the previous year.
- Fourth in the total number of bachelor’s degrees awarded in Engineering. Awarded: 393; up 14% from the previous year.
- Eighth in the total number of doctorate degrees awarded in Engineering. Awarded 23 doctorates; up 53% from the previous year.
- Sixth in the total number of bachelor’s degrees awarded in Biological and Biomedical Sciences. Awarded: 445 degrees; up 17% from the previous year.
- Fifth in the number of doctoral degrees in Computer and Information Sciences. Awarded: 5 doctorates; up 500% from the previous year
