The Division of Diversity and Community Engagement’s(DDCE) Pipeline Council hosted its first ever UT Partners Appreciation Reception on August 23, 2012.

Representatives from across campus got to hear and speak to staff from several of DDCE’s student academic success initiatives including UT Elementary School, UT Outreach, Pre-College Academic Readiness Programs (PCARP), Longhorn Center for Academic Excellence (LCAE), and the Intellectual Entrepreneurship Program. A brief presentation on each of the above programs or departments, including Neighborhood Longhorns, gave recent highlights. For instance:
- Since 1991, Neighborhood Longhorns has been providing incentives for students in second to eighth grade to attend college, and has awarded more than $500,000 in scholarships.
- In 2011 to 2012, PCARP served 987 students from mostly Title I high schools in Texas, 48 of these students will matriculate to UT Austin this fall.
- UT Outreach is in its 25th year of serving first generation and low-income high school students in Texas at one of its five centers.
- Two programs under LCAE saw students maintain a stellar collective GPA, 3.04 for Gateway students and 3.35 for McNair Scholars, demonstrating that staff efforts of mentoring, tutoring and providing support services to students has tangible benefits.
- Since 2004, more than 1,400 UT undergraduates have participated in the Intellectual Entrepreneurship (IE) Pre Grad Internship program connecting them to a graduate student or faculty mentor as they explore graduate study. Over half of these students have gone on to graduate school.
