Sept. 5: Gloria Steinem Speaking at AT&T Center

The Gender and Sexuality Center and the Texas Council on Family Violence are sponsoring a special evening with renowned writer and activist Gloria Steinem. Steinem is delivering the keynote address at the Texas Council on Family Violence 2012 Statewide Conference on September 5, 4:15 p.m. at the AT&T Conference Center on campus and will attend a special VIP Reception following her speech.

Gloria Steinem

Steinem is an activist, feminist, journalist and best-selling author who is nationally recognized as a champion of women’s rights. Through her illustrious career with prominent media outlets, she has become a highly respected spokeswoman on issues of equality.

She co-founded Ms. magazine where she remained an editor for 15 years. Steinem also helped found New York magazine, where she was a political columnist and wrote feature articles. She has been published in Esquire, The New York Times Magazine and many other publications. Steinem was instrumental in the creation of the National Women’s Political Caucus and the Women’s Action Alliance. She continues to involve herself in politics and media affairs as a commentator, writer, lecturer and organizer, campaigning for social justice.
