Meet Travis Gill, Office of Institutional Equity

September 17, 2012

University employees have a new and friendly face in their corner since Travis Gill, assistant director for the Office of Institutional Equity (OIE), joined the team this past June.

Travis Gill

Gill, a Port Arthur native, is an attorney with seven years experience working in the areas of employee disputes and resolution on behalf of large corporations. He made the industry change to higher education because he wanted to work directly with individual employees to improve workplace issues. Gill has most recently lived and practiced in Houston at the law firms of Bracewell & Giuliani, LLP and Jackson & Gill, PLLC. As a private-practice attorney, he represented employers, managers and individuals at the state and federal levels in discrimination and wage and contract disputes.

Gill rounds out the OIE staff, which includes Katherine Antwi Green, assistant vice president; Debbie Dillingham, assistant director; and Dorene Ray, executive assistant. He works with Dillingham to provide faculty and staff with workforce trainings on campus. He also regularly meets with employees on a one-on-one basis and conducts investigations with the aim that he will reach a resolution of all complaints and grievances.

A newlywed, Gill and his wife, Heather, have enjoyed exploring Austin by visiting Ladybird Lake and the city’s parks, going to see the bats under the Congress Bridge and taking in the view at the Oasis. These outdoor excursions have allowed him ample opportunity to engage in his hobby of photography and to exercise his three dogs, a Boston terrier, a Yorkshire terrier and a poodle. He also loves watching college football.

Gill holds a law degree from the University of Houston Law Center and a bachelor of business administration from the University of Oklahoma.
