The tenth annual Abriendo Brecha conference opens on Thursday, Feb. 14, with a keynote by Winona La Duke, an author and activist who was Ralph Nader’s vice-presidential running mate on the Green Party ticket in the 1996 and 2000 elections.

The conference continues until Feb. 16 with numerous panels, presentations and a roundtable discussion, closing with a second keynote by Dr. Peter Kiang, a professor of Education and director of the Asian American Studies Program at the University of Massachusetts – Boston.

Topics presented during the conference include Immigration and the State: Policing, Detention and Resistance; Art, Activism and Social Justice; The Red Star of Texas: Zapatismo and Activist Scholarship at UT Austin; and Violence and the Politics of Memory, just to name a few.
