UT Austin community to rally Wednesday in response to incident

In response to reports of a bleach balloon attack on Bryan Davis, a University of Texas at Austin student, students, faculty and staff will join other community members at a gathering at the Martin Luther King Jr. Statue on Wednesday, August 28 at noon.

Davis told police a bleach-filled balloon hit him in the leg as he was walking in the area west  of campus last week. Austin police, the Office of the Dean of Students and the Campus Climate Response Team are investigating the incident.

“Our university should be a haven and home to students of all backgrounds,” Gregory J. Vincent, vice president for Diversity and Community Engagement said in an official statement. “Austin Police are investigating the allegations about an incident off campus and we are anxious to learn the results. University Police will work closely with Austin Police on the investigation.The Dean of Students and our campus climate response team, which coordinates the university’s response to bias incidents, are actively reviewing these allegations and are also prepared to work with Austin Police on their investigation.”
