DDCE Staff Profile: Suzanne Wallen

October 12, 2013

Truly a world citizen, Assistant Director for Development Suzanne Wallen had been considering a move to Austin for some time. “I have several generations of family roots in Central and Southwestern Texas that were calling me home. Plus I love food, music, color, the arts and the outdoors—need I say more?”

Although she has been with DDCE only for about a month, she said, “The most awesome part of my job has been meeting and working with incredible colleagues who have been generous in sharing knowledge and time with me. I can feel the ‘heart’ in this place. It will not be hard to stay motivated in this environment.” Suzanne’s work focuses on bringing more corporate, foundation and government resources to Academic Diversity Initiatives and Student Engagement.

Suzanne came to DDCE from a global medical organization, Partners in Health, based in Boston, and previously worked for the Center for Collaborative Education and for the WGBH Educational Foundation as a foundation relations officer for its national flagship series that includes Frontline, NOVA and Masterpiece Theatre. She also has worked in Nepal and Bangladesh for the Asia Foundation and later for Pathfinder International as a senior technical associate for Asia.

She received her bachelor’s degree from Pitzer College—one of the five Claremont Colleges—in California, and her master’s degree in Regional Planning with a concentration on international planning from Cornell University.

Welcome Suzanne!
