1200 Attend Indian Cultural Association’s JHALAK 2013

December 3, 2013

From Varun Bhatnagar

On November 9, 2013, the Indian Cultural Association held its annual signature event, JHALAK. An exciting blend of Indian culture and high-energy dance, this event was very successful. With a turnout of almost 1,200 people from all around Austin packing Hogg Auditorium, the event worked to showcase some of the most exciting elements of the Indian culture by bringing eight of the top Bollywood fusion dance teams from all around the nation, coast to coast (quite literally – included in the lineup was a team from California and one from South Carolina).

We are so proud to have organized one of the largest collegiate Bollywood dance competitions in the South and to have taught so many people about the Indian culture. We hope to continue growing the event and make it an even bigger part of the cultural medley here at UT.

Finally, we would like to thank our great sponsors – including DDCE, the Events Co-Sponsorship Board, Student Government, the Senate of College Councils, the University Co-Op, and the Office of the Dean of Students- Division of Student Affairs— for helping fund JHALAK 2013. Without them, this event would not have been the success that it was.

The Indian Cultural Association’s JHALAK 2013 was co-sponsored by the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement.
