Liz Elsen photoLiz Elsen takes making new year’s resolutions to a fun level.  She has been trying to accomplish everything on her list of “100 things to do this year.”  Some of these include: using fitbit to track walking and beating her 2013 total of 1,568.37 miles, unsubscribing to every email list that she no longer wants to be a part of (pro tip: use unrollme), going on a picnic, and using the passport she got in 2008 and has never used (she’s hoping to visit her best friend in Ireland).

Liz currently serves as the Program and Outreach Coordinator for The Gender and Sexuality Center.  She graduated from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2004 receiving Honors in Creative Writing and a degree in Dramatic Art. She went on to receive her Master’s Degree in College and University Student Personnel Administration from UT Austin in 2008.  Upon graduation, she started working at The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign as a Residence Hall Director for the social justice themed Living & Learning Community, Intersections, advising The Urbana South Sexuality and Gender Alliance and co-chairing the Rape Awareness and Prevention Committee.

The call to return to UT was strong; however, and in January 2012 she returned to Austin and to the Gender and Sexuality Center, which had been an important part of her life at UT when she was a student. Grateful to have the opportunity to work in a space that is both a Women’s Center and an LGBTQA center, Liz says that her favorite thing about working in the GSC “is getting to talk about feminism and LGBTQ issues all day, and supervising and advising students.”  Elsen advises a variety of student groups including The Feminist Action Project, The Student Leadership Committee, The Awesome Bisexual Collective, and University Nerdfighters. She is also on the executive board for The Pride and Equity Faculty Staff Association.

She spends her free time writing, reading young adult fiction, and going to Waffle Houses across the country.  She loves the walking trails in Austin and having access to amazing museums and cultural experiences.
